Amish Friendship Bread
a recipe from the Littleton Grist Mill

Starter:

1 package dry yeast
2 cups warm water
2 cups flour
3 tbls. Sugar

Mix in a glass bowl and place in a warm place for several days, stirring daily. Keep bowl covered with a light cloth. Start with Day 1.

Day 1- Do Nothing
Day 2-4- Stir
Day 5- Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk, mix
Day 6-9- Stir
Day 10- Repeat Day 5

Pour 1 cup of batter into 3 different containers, and give them to 3 friends.

Addition to batter:

Add raisins, nuts, dried apples, bananas, etc. Whatever you like.

Also add:

2/3 cup oil
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 ¼ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt

Pour into greased and floured loaf pan and bake at 350 for 50 minutes. Each oven is different; so do not leave bread unattended.
